Hotel Transylvania: Transformania Movie REVIEW: Monster Toon Franchise Finally Expires

The movie was everything I expected it to be. From the very beginning of the film, where Dracula (Adam Sandler) tells his daughter Annie (Selena Gomez) her classic tale, I knew this would be a funny one. Our story begins when Dracula’s best friend and Monster-in-law decide it’s time to take a boat cruise for a monster-only vacation. He does this once every 100 years and Dracula is expected to make the preparations.

As usual, Dracula has his reservations (he’s afraid of water) but he knows how much this trip means to his best friend so he doesn’t say no. After all, it’s only for two weeks.

As Dracula tries to make the necessary arrangements, he finds out that his 22-year old daughter (who has never left the hotel) is planning her own trip. She meets Ericka (Kathryn Hahn), who takes off with all of Annie’s friends and family so she can have an adventure of her own.

Annie thinks this is a good time to actually get out of the Hotel and have an adventure of her own which leads her on a journey of self-discovery that leads her right into the hands of Johnny (Andy Samberg).

This was a classic tale that had been retold quite a few times. A beautiful girl meets a man, falls in love, finds out the man is a vampire, and has to figure out how to keep from being sucked dry by him. The difference between this one and the others is that it’s not just Dracula who is a vampire. In fact, only three of the main characters are actually vampires.

The script was well written and pulled me in from moment one. Even though it was a well-known tale, I found myself laughing at all the right times and even shedding tears along with Annie. Selena Gomez did an excellent job in this role and all of her co-stars were fabulous as well.

I hope Adam Sandler keeps making these types of movies because they are great family films that everyone can enjoy. I give this one five out of five stars.
