Massive Cyberattack On Ukraine Government Websites

0

* Ukraine has been hit by a cyberattack on its government computer systems that forced officials to switch to manual, paper-based procedures across the country. * Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko said on Tuesday that the government’s electronic networks were down and that computers were disabled with messages demanding a ransom be paid in bitcoins.

* “Attention. All computers of the government on Monday, April 16 at 14:00 (8:00 GMT) will be blocked by the automatic updating system. If you do not restart your computer after this time, it will be affected,” read a message shown on several government websites.

* The attack appeared to originate from Russia, Ukrainian officials said. * Konstantin Khivrenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s state-run hosting company UkrtekhoboronService, said the attack was “probably” carried out by Russian hackers. He did not say if they were paid or just doing it for fun.
