It’s all come down to this. Soon, Rick Grimes will finally discover the identity of who attacked and abducted him and Michonne; we’ll find out what Negan has in store for his captive, and we’ll get a better view at that mysterious helicopter that’s been hovering since the end of Season 10.
As amazing as these final three episodes are gonna be, it’s time to say goodbye to some old friends.
Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 11 are below.
I’m talking about Chandler Riggs’ Carl Grimes – the kid who survived the entire apocalypse only to get bit by a walker just as things began turning around. Riggs is moving on from The Walking Dead after eight years, and Carl will be dead by the end of the mid-season finale.

It’s a sad time to be a TWD fan.
What a ride Riggs has been on since he first showed up in Season 1 as a chubby kid with bad teeth and an unhealthy obsession with a zombie he named ‘Big Sam.’ It’s been an emotional roller coaster for Riggs and fans as we watched Carl grow up, lose his eye, get shot at the prison, lose his sanity for a while after getting shot, and finally meet up with this little blonde girl named Judith. The child has survived more than most people could ever dream of, and it’s all because of the kid who first showed up to set at 15-years-old.
By the end of Season 8 last year, after Carl had made amends with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), he was ready for his next adventure. He’d helped Rick (Andrew Lincoln) finally take down Negan, and he was ready for life beyond the walls of Alexandria.
“I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes,” said Riggs in an interview with Digital Spy during Season 8. “A lot of people live their whole lives not knowing what they want to do when they grow up, but I got a chance to work on it for eight years and refine my skills, which has been pretty cool.”
“I feel like I’m the same person I was when I started this show – but completely different at the same time,” Riggs added, describing his growth on-set. “You grow up on a show like this. You can’t help it.”
Looking back at Riggs’ first day on The Walking Dead, you can see how much has changed. Carl was a kid; now, he’s all grown up… and leaving the show. It’s been an amazing journey for both Chandler and TWD fans, and no matter what happens from here on out in the show, The Walking Dead will never be the same. RIP Carl Grimes – you will be missed!
