All the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival will announce is that tickets go on sale Thursday.
The complete list of acts for the 2016 New Orleans Jazz Fest are two weeks away. But unlike in many previous years, Jazz Fest fans won’t have to wait until the lineup comes out before they decide whether to buy tickets. That’s because the festival has dropped its springtime tradition of a one-day “preview” concert by many of the acts on the big bill. Instead, all artists booked for this year’s May 2-4 fest at Fair Grounds Race Course will be revealed on Thursday, when the tickets go on sale.
The news was announced Tuesday (Feb. 3) in an email to fans who had signed up for ticket pre-sales and newsletters. “For the past two years, we’ve held an artist preview show that included 70 percent of this year’s Jazz Fest artists,” the statement said. “This year, we’re going 100 percent.” New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation president and general manager Dan Hegwood stressed that the foundation is still putting on a preview show, albeit with less fanfare than in recent years. “We haven’t canceled anything,” he said.
“We’ve just adjusted it so that it better reflects the current structure of the festival.”
