It is with a heavy heart that we report the deaths of Robert and Elizabeth Witt, whose daughter is Alicia Witt. The two passed away in their home yesterday due to an unknown cause.
The Worcester Police Department urges anyone with information about the case to come forward, as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the loss of life.

Parents of Alicia Witt found dead in home
- Alicia Witt’s parents were found deceased by a relative at their home in Worcester, Massachusetts on Dec. 20
- The death is still under investigation, but there are no signs of foul play
- Witt describes her parents as “brilliant educators, deeply kind, curious, intuitive, wise, young at heart, funny,” and also “fiercely stubborn”
- She struggled with what else she could have done to help them, even petitioning the courts for assistance
- Kathleen Daly-Shea, director of media relations for the Worcester Police Department said that “there were no signs of foul play” while Worcester Fire Deputy Chief Adam Roche said there were no signs of carbon monoxide at the residence.

- On December 20, 2017, at approximately 5:55 pm, Worcester Police Officers arrived on the scene at a residence located at 26 Prescott Street. The caller advised that they had gone to check on their mother and father and found them deceased inside. Officers arrived and found the deceased bodies of a man and woman believed to be in their seventies in the home.
- On December 21, 2017, Worcester Police Detectives along with Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office began conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
- The initial investigation has revealed no signs of foul play; however, the cause of death is pending autopsy results.
- The deceased has been identified as Robert and Elizabeth Witt. Their daughter is Alicia Witt, a Worcester native who is currently living in New York City.
- As the investigation continues it appears there was some type of heating malfunction at the residence which resulted in the loss of heat inside the home. There also did not appear to be any carbon monoxide present at the scene.
- Worcester Police Detectives, working with their State Police Crime Scene Unit, and members from Department of Energy Resources were able to determine there was a lack of a forced air supply within the residence. The heating system was found to be inadequate for the size of the home.
- The residence is currently under investigation by both State Police Crime Scene Unit and Mass. Department of Public Safety, Board of Fire Prevention Regulations. The residence has been secured while both agencies continue their investigation. Both State Police Detectives assigned to Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and Worcester Police Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the loss of life.
- The first floor of the building consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen and first floor bedroom. The second floor consists of two bedrooms, one currently being used as an office. There is also a finished attic area that has been unused for many years.
- The cause of death for both individuals is currently pending autopsy results. The family of the deceased has been notified.
- While there are no indications of foul play, this remains an active investigation being conducted by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and Worcester Police Detectives assigned to their office.
