Japan’s failure in the recent World Cup raises questions over the state of Japanese Football. Believing that Japan lacks an egotistical goal-hungry striker, Jinpachi Ego is hired by the Japanese football association to find Japan’s next huge talent. How will he achieve this? Blue-Lock, a prison-like facility that will test the top 300 most talented strikers from all of Japan’s high schools. Those who are eliminated are forever banned from ever joining the National team.
The story follows Yoichi Isagi, a young boy who failed to help his team qualify for the national tournament. Despairing and questioning ‘what if?’ he had scored himself rather than pass the ball, Isagi breaks down into tears. Later we see Isagi receive a letter from the Japanese Football Association regarding a ‘Player Improvement Project’. Unaware of what’s about to come Isagi enters Blue-Lock where he will have to learn how to be ruthless and cold if he wants to truly make it out as Japan’s number one striker.

Blue Lock’s close contested battle against the U-20 Japanese team comes to an end with Yoichi Isagi’s decisive goal coming in the last minute. The chapter covers the team celebrating together huddling around Isagi. We also see Rin Itoshi’s anger and despair after his brother Sae states that Isagi will be the one to lead Japan. The chapter ends with Isagi being interviewed about his views of the match. Stating his happiness for the Blue Lock team coming out victorious, Yoichi states that he will lead Japan to victory in the U-20 World Cup.
