San Claudio, the creative habitat of the artist Sonek

It was going to be a simple excursion to an old abandoned pottery factory located in Oviedo (Asturias) with the aim of intervening artistically, taking some photos to document the adventure and returning home. But San Claudio became much more for the Asturian Sonek. It is now his creative habitat.

He chose this space, which he continues to visit frequently, for the opportunities it offered him to experiment artistically. Everything in that abandoned place was capable of becoming a canvas: walls, corners, stairs, pipes, different textures, ferns and lots and lots of ceramics.

“Along with nature and time, space is changing, and every time I come back it offers new situations. All this has given me the possibility to explore and generate my style».

Being in a space that changes and invites exploration became a creative game for the artist. «He has taken me from painting to installation and performance; and, above all, to document and observe spaces as a fundamental part of my creative process».
