There are quite a few Costa Ricans who each year take a plane to Madrid, Spain, to later settle in different cities and embark on the adventure of taking a university career, either undergraduate or postgraduate.

There are also many who bury their fears and go to that country attracted by courses in different areas, often lasting only a few months.

Perhaps what they do not know at the beginning of the process are the unimaginable benefits that studying Spain offers.

The truth is that graduating in that nation represents much more than obtaining a degree and living in another country, as explained by the Spanish consul in San José, Costa Rica, Juan Sáinz Herrero.

”Studying in Spain is one of the most important and timely decisions that Costa Ricans can make. It has a series of attractions such as academic centers of different levels, of internationally recognized excellence, a very high quality of life, we speak the same language, it is very touristy, we have a cultural similarity and Spain has a comparative advantage with respect to other European countries and to the United States itself and the fact is that we have a significantly lower cost of education and living than the average”, stressed Sáinz.

Those advantages listed by the consul are not the only ones. There is one that even has more power to make anyone fall in love.

Spain is part of the European Education Area, therefore, the official title that a Tico obtains in this country is automatically recognized in about 50 countries, said Sáinz.

What to study? The good thing about Spain is that there are options in all areas, including Social Sciences, Philosophy, Literature, through Medicine and technology.

Imagine the number of people you will meet from different countries if you dare to study in Spain, a country that stands out for attracting students from other European nations, who are fascinated by the atmosphere of Madrid, the Mediterranean Sea in Barcelona or the Pyrenees.

Sáinz highlighted the multiple possibilities of obtaining a scholarship.

He said that they are offered by the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation.

There are also other entities, such as the Carolina Foundation, the autonomous communities and the universities themselves.
