After A 12-Hour Hospital Shift, Manitoba’s Minister Receives Criticism For An Insensitive Tweet About His Wife Shoveling Snow

Many people were quick to react when Manitoba Cabinet Minister Jon Reyes mentioned his wife, a frontline worker, shoveling snow after a rendering half-day shift at the hospital.

As his wife shoveled one foot ahead of the other on their driveway, Reyes snapped a photo of her from within their house, where she was digging one foot in front of the other.

“My wife is still able to shovel the driveway even after a 12-hour night shift at the hospital last night,” Reyes announced on Saturday. “It’s time to cook her breakfast and give her a hand.”

The following day, on Monday, the event had taken over Twitter, TikTok, and other platforms. Worse still, the Los Angeles tabloid TMZ discovered Reyes’ tweet and revealed that he’d been discussing tennis rather than the pandemic’s criticality on Sunday night.

Reyes’ tweet, which dismissed the vital work frontline workers have given to millions of patients across the world since the pandemic began, did not go down well with many.

Despite Cynthia’s attempts to calm the storm, social media users were quick to criticize the minister for his behavior, calling it “unnecessary.” “All I wanted to do was shovel!” she tweeted.

Former Manitoba cabinet minister and father of Premier Brian Pallister, Steven Lukaszuk, expressed his frustration by stating that Reyes’ conduct was not a representation of all politician spouses.

Traci Law questioned Reyes about why he didn’t assist his wife in shoveling.

Others took a more lighthearted approach, using humor to express their displeasure.
