Unknown men opened fire on a group of men sitting around a campfire playing dice in a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, killing four of them, police sources said Sunday.
The attackers shot at men playing on a street corner on Saturday night in Lenasia, a southern suburb of South Africa’s economic capital. They killed four of them and wounded two others, police spokesman Masondo Mavela told AFP.
“They were attacked for no apparent reason,” regional police chief Elias Mawela said, describing the incident as “another appalling crime scene.”
The attack came just a week after shootings in two bars in South Africa left 20 people dead, including 16 at a tavern in Soweto, near Johannbesburg, where attackers appeared to have fired indiscriminately at patrons.
Shootings are frequent in South Africa, one of the most violent countries in the world.
