The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer provided plenty of fodder for thought. It also announced that there would be numerous enemies, all of them are from prior Spider-Man flicks. So there you have it, folks: we now have a Spider-verse. We believe the Sinister Six is on the way, based on the number of baddies we’ve seen. Here are all of the Spider-Man enemies that the new trailer confirms, as well as others that it strongly suggests. Then there are the ones we’re hoping to see.
Table of Contents
1. Green Goblin
While we don’t see him, it’s most likely one of the Green Goblin’s pumpkin bombs, followed by Willem Dafoe’s trademark cackling. As a result, Norman Osborn, Spider-first Man’s on-screen antagonist, has been confirmed. So why weren’t they able to show him? So, we’ve come up with a theory. Although Gobby (as Spidey affectionately referred to him) will arrive, he may or may not be dressed in the same suit. Even back in the day, when Willem Dafoe was playing Osborn, the Power Rangers suit didn’t get much praise. Perhaps it’s time to recreate the original Green Goblin mask that they tried but never used? It’s time for the Green Goblin to redeem himself. We can’t wait to see how the Green Goblin will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
2. Doctor Octopus
Doctor Octopus, a.k.a. Doc Ock. He was the first non-MCU Spider-Man villain to be confirmed for No Way Home. And if you’re thinking to yourself, “Wow, Doc Ock looks just like he did in Spider-Man 2,” it’s because Molina revealed that he was digitally de-aged. Given that Otto appeared to be dead at the end of Spider-Man 2, how Doc Ock returns in Now Way Home will be intriguing. Was he taken from the timeline just before his death? That’s our best guess. Not only for him but also for the next guy.
3. Sandman
This is where things start to become a little hazy. We can see all of the lightning in the same photos, and there appear to be a lot of dust clouds surrounding it. Should we call them sand clouds? It reminds us of Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman. Flint Marko/William Baker, unlike Doc Ock and Green Goblin, didn’t so much die as… blow away. That’s what Spider-Man 3 seemed to imply, at least. So there’s no need for a resurrection story device. Sandman was one of the best features of the third Raimi Spider-Man film, so if it is actually him, we’re glad to see him again.
4. Electro
While we won’t see Electro himself in No Way Home, Jamie Foxx has been confirmed as the first returning villain from outside the MCU. But there’s a lot of lightning and electricity in this trailer, so we have to assume that’s where all of Electro’s abilities are emerging. Electro did have the ability to create, and his appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 differed significantly from that in the comics. And Foxx has suggested that this Electro would be given a facelift in terms of appearance. Now, we’re not expecting Electro to dress up in his iconic comic book outfit, which is one of the oldest styles ever worn by a Marvel villain. However, it appears like something in the traditional green and yellow color scheme should be used, right?
5. The Lizard
While Electro will not appear in No Way Home, Jamie Foxx has been announced as the first non-MCU villain to return. However, there’s a lot of lightning and electricity in this trailer, so we’ll have to believe that’s where all of Electro’s powers come from. Electro did have the capacity to create, and his appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was quite different from what he was in the comics. And Foxx has hinted that the Electro’s appearance would be improved. Now, we’re not expecting Electro to dress up in his original comic book suit, which is one of the strangest looks a Marvel villain has ever worn. However, it appears to be in the typical Greek style. So, if we’re creating a Multiversal version of the Sinister Six (as we’ve long suspected), that leaves an open sixth place. Who could possibly fill it? Believe it or not, there are still lots of options available. Here are our best estimates for who might make up the Sinister Six’s last member in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
6. The Vulture and Mysterio
The two MCU super villains that Spider-Man battled may theoretically fit the sixth slot. Vulture is still alive, as far as we know. And Mysterio might have easily feigned his death. However, it appears like they’re aiming for a Sinister Six comprised entirely of villains from the pre-MCU Spider-Man films. But you never know, one of these men might sign up and surprise us.
7. The Scorpion
We get a formal introduction to Mac Gargan at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming (Michael Mando). In prison, we see him conversing with Michael Keaton’s Vulture. We’re still waiting for him to dress up as the Scorpion four years later. He does, however, have two strikes against him. As a supervillain, he’s never faced Spidey. He’s also another MCU villain, and we believe they’re going for Multiverse-only villains this time.
8. The Rhino
Yes, at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Paul Giamatti played the Rhino. If you forgot, we don’t blame you. It seems to be preparing him for something bigger. But, as we all know, there was no third installment of The Amazing Spider-Man. So maybe being the Sinister Six’s baddie #6 is Rhino’s last chance at redemption?
And this is sheer guesswork. This edition of the Sinister Six, we believe, is a one-off. The name, on the other hand, is likely to endure. If the Sinister Six get their own film, we’re expecting an all-star cast of more contemporary Spider-verse foes. Consider the aforementioned Vulture and Mysterio, as well as Venom and Morbius. They’ll have debuted Kraven the Hunter in his own film by then. Perhaps commanded by one of the former Sinister Six’s surviving members? One thing is certain. Sony and Marvel aren’t going to let the Sinister Six concept die. This is most likely only the beginning.
