Yami Shibai: The Japanese Ghost Stories is also known as the Yami Shibai  and Theatre of Darkness. This is a current favorite Japanese anime series. 

The basis storyline goes around a mysterious old man who every week at  5pm would show up with a  yellow mask shows up at a children’s playground. He would engage the chikdren with his ghost stories which are mostly based on myths and urban legends. He uses the traditional Kamishbai method of telling the stories on the back of his bicycle.

The Season 9 of Yami Shibai released  on the 11th of July 2021. The central theme of the episodes are the Chinese Zodiacs. Yamishibai Season 9 Episode 4 will release on 1st August 2021.

Saki a young office worker listens to her co-worker’s gossip about their colleague Makiko. Makiko has been absent for a week. Saki worked till very late at night that day. The next day she has been very much exhausted and steps into an unfamiliar park during her break time. She has a sudden vision. The vison is about being in a desert under a darkened sky. There a line of ants  wandering around an antlion pit of her feet. She looks at them and suddenly a voice asks her if she is sad. Then next moment she finds herself sinking helplessly into the sand. She comes out of that hallucination and reaches her office where her manager is concerned about her work. The next day the same thing happens while she is enroute to work. Again she is at the park in the vison of the dessert. A voice this time asks her if  if she wants to go far away. Then horror strikes her as  she recognizes it as Makiko’s voice. Then she falls suddenly into a sandpit.  There she sees Makiko. He invites her to join her. Later a man is on his way and stumbles upon the same park. The park is not on the map.

Chie, a high school student receives a call from her teacher Mr. Sugiura. He notifying her that the school will be closed the next day to host a viewing. She is advised by her teacher to not to visit campus. But people are always drawn to the forbidden fruit, Chie and her friends decide to investigate the matter. When Chie is at the school she gets a text from her friends that they are waiting for her. Inside the campus there are no teachers but the classrooms are filled with very bad mannered students. Chie finds one of her friends among them. The announcement happens that the viewing is about to begin. Chie takes a seat and the  door slams open. All of the class covers their eyes. They behave like they are crying in unison. Young men are then found in corridor dragging a coffin with ropes. Suddenly everyone stops crying and stare at Chie. Suddenly, the droning stops, and she notices everyone is staring at her. She goes to the back of the classroom frightened and then the lid of coffin starts sliding slowly. A black mist emerges from that. When the lid is completely opened she sees her self dead in the mist. Then the scene cuts to Chie’s friends who are waiting outside, they had arrived later. As they don’t find Chie they hang out somewhere else.
