Johnathon Morris, the actor who played Henry ‘Mr. MacKenzie’ Montrose in children’s TV show Grange Hill for six years, has died at the age of 84.

The Liverpool-born star passed away in hospital on April 28 with his family by his side.

They have since announced their father’s death, tweeting: ‘With a heavy heart, it’s with great sadness that Brenda has to announce the death of her beloved John. Dad to Becky and Jeremy, Grandad Morris. We will miss him more than words can say.’

What’s the connection? Your guess is as good as mine… but I like it. Tori xxx ps – if anyone has any information about what went on behind the scenes on the set of Grange Hill, I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch

P.P.S – I have been sent a lot of new stuff since publishing this post so check out my update here. P.P.P.S – Grange Hill did a poor job of representing a multicultural London, did they not? Here’s a Facebook post I found by a fan that sums it up perfectly.

“Don’t forget to reflect on the fact that Grange Hill was set in North West London and yet there were no Black actors featured, with the exception of Roland (who then became white for some reason). Oh, and I only realized the other day that Mr. MacKenzie was meant to be Scottish!”

She has a point! Well done Meryl. I had no idea that Mr. MacKenzies’ character background had changed during the show’s run. Watch this space… I will try to get in touch with Meryl for her thoughts on the matter. UPDATE – I did get in touch with Meryl and she had these kind words to say about Johnathon… “Johnathon was always so nice, so sensitive behind his gruff exterior. He never raised his voice at anyone, he encouraged pupils back through their exams, may be changed lives by doing that.”
