Robert John “Meat Loaf” Batdorf, the larger-than-life singer whose bombastic rock opera “Bat Out of Hell” is one of the best-selling albums of all time, has died at age 74.
“With sadness, we must report that the incomparable Meat Loaf died this evening at his home with his wife Deborah at his side,” it continued. “Pearl and Amanda, as well as close friends, have been there for him throughout the last 24 hours.”
The representative for Meat Loaf’s agency revealed his death to CNN. The cause of death was not announced.
The distinguished artist’s death was announced by several of his colleagues, and tributes flooded in for the man whose career lasted six decades.

Despite this, the singer remarked that physical issues had hindered his ability to perform. He wrote on Facebook in November that he’d undergone four back operations and would be returning to the studio in 2016.

Because of my back problems, I couldn’t reach high notes.

Meat Loaf suffered a health scare in 2016 when he collapsed during a performance in the Canadian city of Edmonton and was taken to the hospital. Dehydration was cited as the reason, according to his representative at the time.
