Valencian design in 2022 is sweet. With its character as World Design Capital, the city of Valencia takes the opportunity to look at the past of one of the most iconic Spanish objects and modernize it, the one that serves to move the air and refresh us when the plugs and electricity fail: the 2.0 fan.

Instead of the wheel, the exhibition Designing the air reinvents the fan, a key piece of Valencian industry and “a traditional piece of Valencian object memory”, in the words of the exhibition’s curator, Vicent Martínez. In the exhibition, twenty designers from all over the world look at the fan with the eyes of the contemporary world. They use materials as traditional as mother-of-pearl, but in combination with digitally printed fabrics or laser-cut wood.
