The United States Returns to Mexico Miniature Pig, Pet of Grandpa and his Granddaughter

The authorities of United States of America (USA) prevented the entry into the country of a miniature pig that a Grandpa and his granddaughter they were transporting when they arrived at customs in California arguing sanitary reasons, according to the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

“Although many travelers would like to cross the border into the United States with different species of animals, from the customs perspective we have to make sure that we mitigate the entry of possible animal diseases,” said Rosa Hernández, acting director of Operations for CBP in San Diego.

“Unfortunately, some travelers cannot cross the border with their pets, but we must comply with the regulations of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), added the official.

During the inspection, a CBP agricultural specialist informed the Grandpa and his granddaughter Live pigs are not allowed to enter the United States of America (USA) without a permit from the Veterinary Service.

CBP also recalled that pigs must comply with the regulations stipulated for live cattle in order to be allowed to enter the United States from other countries.

“The owners voluntarily returned their pet pig to Mexico,” the CBP statement said. “No further investigation was necessary.”

The animal health regulations of the United States allow some animals to remain detained, at the expense of the owner, while the procedures for their disposal are completed.
